# AnythingLLM

> Keenable is a built-in web search provider for AnythingLLM agents, with no API key required.

*Built-in search provider*

AnythingLLM ships Keenable as one of the web search providers for its agents, starting with v1.16.2. It works without an API key.

→ [The Keenable provider in AnythingLLM](https://github.com/Mintplex-Labs/anything-llm/pull/6336)

## Turn it on

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the web search skill">
    Open **Settings → Agent Skills** and select **Web Search**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Pick Keenable">
    Switch the skill on and choose **Keenable** as the provider. Leave **API Key** empty to use the public tier, then save.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Ask an agent">
    In a workspace chat, start your message with `@agent` and ask something that needs the web.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Use your API key

Paste your key (`keen_<your_key>`, from the [console](https://app.keenable.ai/console)) into **API Key (optional)** in the same panel. On a Docker install you can set it in the environment instead:

```bash theme={"system"}
AGENT_KEENABLE_API_KEY=keen_<your_key>
```

Leave **Base URL** empty unless you route requests through a proxy; it defaults to `https://api.keenable.ai`.

<Note>
  Without a key, searches run on the shared public tier at [lower rate limits](/rate-limits). A key moves them to your organization's limits and removes the hourly cap.
